Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone has appealed to Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu "to reconsider your position to lift the suspension order on the loading of the Chromite ores of Techiron Resources, Inc" in the island.
The call invoked "humanitarian considerations to protect the health and safety" of his constituents.
The provincial board, Guiuan municipal council, and Homonhon barangay councils have earlier passed resolutions supporting the plight of the island's residents.
Borongan Bishop Crispin Varquez has also urged DENR to stop the loading activity while the general community quarantine is enforced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease in the province."
